The Parks and Open Spaces Unit
The Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Unit
are responsible for the management and development of over 860
acres of amenity land throughout the District of Bassetlaw.
Included within this acreage are the two
main town centre parks:
- The Canch in Worksop
- Kings' Park in Retford
Other key sites include:
- Langold Country Park with its lake and woodland features
- Kilton Forest Golf Course in Worksop
The Unit manages a grounds maintenance service which is
responsible for the upkeep of the District Council's green
landscaped spaces, street gardens and playing fields which
accommodate a range of sport based activities.
The Unit also provides technical advice for the maintenance of
grass, shrubs plantings and trees on estates managed by A1
Housing Bassetlaw Limited.
A further aspect of the service delivers grounds maintenance
works in Bassetlaw's three working cemeteries at:
Retford Road, Worksop
Hannah Park, Worksop
Retford Cemetery, Retford
and a number of closed churchyards.
For the younger age range the Unit maintains
and continues to develop play facilities.
This service currently provides:
- 35 children’s play areas
- 9 multi-use games courts
- 3 skate parks (The Canch at
Worksop, Kings Park in Retford and Langold Country
- 11 outdoor basketball sites
- Places to play in
Catering for more passive recreational
pursuits, the Parks and Open Spaces Unit administers a total of
24 allotment sites in Retford and
Angling is also provided for on the Unit’s
three open water sites at:
Across its parks and open spaces sites the District Council
organises and stages a wide range of community events either
directly or in partnership with other organisations, groups and
interested individuals. In the past these have included
Teenfest, Retford Charter Day, Love Parks Week and various family
