What do we do?

• We enforce food safety legislation through programmed inspections of all food businesses in Bassetlaw and investigation of complaints about food, food premises and food poisoning.  We also sample a range of food and water supplies.

• We enforce health and safety legislation through a programme of inspections and interventions, and we investigate accidents and complaints about health, safety and welfare at work.  We have guidance for carrying out risk assessments and on asbestos.

• We provide information and guidance in relation to contaminated or partially contaminated land.

• We regulate premises likely to pollute the atmosphere by a permitting regime and the investigation of complaints.  We monitor air quality in the district, and assess and test private water supplies.

• We carry out inspections to ensure certain licensed establishments meet hygiene and safety standards, and comply with their licence conditions.

• We provide advice to new businesses starting up in Bassetlaw.

• We are participating in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
