Green is the Colour for Retford’s Royal Park
Retford’s favourite park – which is fit for a
King – has just been awarded the prestigious Green Flag
accreditation, the national standard for parks in England and
Wales.
Kings' Park, located in the very heart of
Retford town centre, was the best park in the Midlands last year,
and now has the Green Flag award to add to the trophy cabinet.
And the Council’s success marks a double
celebration for the site, as it celebrated its 70th birthday in
June.
“Kings' Park is an absolutely magnificent
facility and one which the whole town should take pride in,” said
Councillor Mike Pugsley, Portfolio Holder for Environment and
Housing at the Council.
“Getting the Green Flag award confirms what we
already know – that the park is simply the best there is.”
To get the green flag accreditation, the park
was put through a rigorous inspection process and was judged on 8
criteria:
Judges wanted to see that the park was:
- A welcoming place.
- Healthy, safe and secure.
- Clean and well maintained.
- Sustainable.
- That particular attention is paid to conservation and
heritage.
- That the Park’s management should actively pursue community
involvement.
- That a marketing strategy is in place.
- That a management plan is in place.
