How to Pay your Council Tax

You can pay your Council Tax by many easy and convenient ways.  These are all shown on the back of you Council Tax bill.

 

Direct Debit for Council Tax

This is the only method of payment that gives you a choice of five different payment dates for Council Tax.  You can also pay four weekly or weekly by Direct Debit for your Council Tax.

Complete the instruction and return it to your One Stop Shop. Or send it in FREEPOST (No stamp required) to the address on the instruction.

 

For Council Tax we can take your details over the phone

Phone us on 01909 533234 between 8:40am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.

 

You can choose from 5 different dates to pay your Council Tax:

 

1st, 10th, 15th, 25th and 28th.  Or we can offer weekly or 4 weekly direct debit options (deducted on a Friday) and you can choose to pay up to 12 months until March.

 

Direct Debit Guarantee logo

 

  • This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.
  • If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit Bassetlaw District Council will notify you at least 10 working days in advance of your bank account being debited or as otherwise agreed.  If you request Bassetlaw District Council to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.
  • If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by Bassetlaw District Council or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.
    • If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when Bassetlaw District Council asks you to.
  • You can cancel a direct debit at any time simply by contacting your bank or building society.  Written confirmation may be required.  Please also notify us.

Online Payment

Make an Online Payment.  Just a few simple steps to make an online payment.  This service is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

 

You can pay money to the council for the following bills by debit card using the internet. This method is currently suitable for:

 

  • Council Tax
  • Non Domestic Rates
  • Invoices
  • Rents
  • Other Payments

 

Additional services will be added as we continue to develop this facility.

 

Your transaction will take place within a secure payment system. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, a standard supported by most major Internet browsers. All of your personal and card details are protected using 128 bit encryption, when transmitted over the Internet.

 

Your card details are stored on a server behind a secure firewall. Only authorised personnel may access this information.

Payment using Home Banking

You can pay through your own HOME BANKING facility with your own Bank or Building Society.  Please quote our sort code 08-90-44 and account number 61031885 and your full 12 digit Council Tax Reference Number (Located on the front of your Council Tax Bill).

Payments in Person

Please note we do not accept cash at our Council One Stop Shops.

 

Take your Council Tax Bill with you to one of our offices:

 

One Stop Shop, Queens Buildings, Potter Street, Worksop, S80 2AH, or One Stop Shop, 17b The Square, Retford, DN22 6DB

 

Open Monday to Thursday 8:40 am to 4:45 pm, Friday 8:40 am to 4:15 pm

 

The cashiers service in our One Stop Shops accept most types of credit card (Not American Express) and we accept debit cards.

Payments by Post

For security, please send only cheques and postal orders through the post.  Send your payment to the Worksop or Retford office.  If you require a receipt, you must enclose your Council Tax Bill.

Payments by Standing Order

If you set up a standing order through your own Bank or Building Society to pay your Council Tax, please note it takes between 6 - 10 days for payments to reach your account.  Please ensure you give enough time for your payments to reach your account by the due payment date.

 

Please quote our Sort Code: 08-90-44, and Account Number: 61031885 and quote your 12 digit Council Tax Account reference.

Payments at the Post Office

All Council Tax payers can pay at their local Post Office (free of charge).  Your bill has a barcode on it that can be scanned at your local Post Office. 

 

This scheme helps customers who don't live in the parts of Bassetlaw which have Cashier Halls to take payments.

 

Any cheques paid to a post office should be made out to "Post Office Ltd".
