Council Tax Charges 2013/2014

Police, fire and local council services are paid for by Council
Tax and Government grants, and in some cases, through charges for
services. Council Tax is based on property values and, in this
area, is collected by Bassetlaw District Council on behalf of all
four organisations.

available in large print or braille.
How do we use your Council Tax, and what is it spent on?
Council Tax payment is the responsibility of
owner-occupiers or, if rented, council tenants, private tenants and
tenants of housing associations. Council Tax is also due on
unoccupied furnished and unfurnished houses in certain
circumstances. This booklet explains discounts on occupied and
empty houses on page 8.
Business Rates Charges 2013/14.
Information regarding your Business rates is included in
this leaflet for 2013/2014 is available to
download.
Business Rates (National Non-Domestic Rates) are
payable on all commercial properties. This includes shops,
offices, banks, hotels, factories and power stations.
Bills are sent out each year starting 1st
April and they are usually payable by the occupier of the
property.
Business Rates are collected by Bassetlaw
District Council for Central Government. Under the new
Business Rates Retention Scheme, a proportion of the amount
collected is retained by Bassetlaw.
