Parents are legally required to register a birth. You need to
register your baby’s birth within the area that the birth
occurred, in order to obtain a birth certificate, thereby
giving him/her an official identity. You can then use the
certificate to claim child benefit and other family-related
benefits.
If you are a married couple at the time of birth, then either
the mother or father can register the baby. If you are not
married, the mother must register the baby, However, if the father
is to be named on the certificate then he must go along to the
registration.
All birth registrations are handled by Nottinghamshire County
Council and the following addresses are where you are able to do
this in the Bassetlaw area.
