The Economic Development Department promote and
support the economic development of our District. They manage
and facilitate initiatives and projects in a wide range of areas.
This includes working closely with many groups and organisations
including the Local Strategic Partnership
(LSP) to bring together a wealth of knowledge, experience and
determination to achieve positive actions to benefit local
businesses, and improved quality of life for our residents.
The main aims and objectives of the Economic
Development Unit are:
- To work in partnership with local
agencies, groups and bodies to deliver regeneration programmes and
projects;
- To identify opportunities and threats for
the local economy and address these accordingly;
- To secure funding and investment to target
activity into these areas and address problems related to
deprivation and/or industrial decline;
- To provide an information and advice
service for investors on the availability of sites and premises,
development opportunities in the District and financial
assistance;
- To ensure that local firms have access to
and are aware of business support programmes available in the
District;
- To encourage residents to learn, to help
ensure that suitable training provision is available and to address
barriers to employment and training;
- To work in partnership with the local
community, business fora and private sector to create attractive
successful retail environments;
- To promote the District as an attractive
tourist destination and look at new tourism products.
