Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership

The Bassetlaw Local Strategic Partnership (BLSP) is a joining of organisations that operate within the Bassetlaw district.

These organisations originate from the public sector, voluntary and community sector and from the business sector.

Representatives from all of these organisations have undertaken to have regular meetings to discuss issues around service delivery in the District and how this can be improved.

The BLSP consists of eight themes:

  • Economic Regeneration
  • Learning & Skills
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Stronger Communities
  • Community Safety
  • Children and Young People
  • Transport and Accessibility

Why do we have a Local Strategic Partnership?

LSP’s are the key mechanism promoted by the Government to join up public services at an authority wide level. Local authorities are expected to develop such partnerships where they do not currently exist, despite the establishment of an LSP not being statutory. LSP’s are key to tackling problems, which need resolving in a number of different ways, by different agencies. Local partners working through the LSP are expected to take many of the major decisions about priorities for their local area.

A lack of joint working at local level has been one of the main reasons for the lack of progress in delivering sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration, or improved public services, that meet the needs of local people. It is widely recognised that a combination of organisations, and the community, working together as part of an LSP will have a far greater chance of success.

What does the Local Strategic Partnership hopes to achieve?

The BLSP aims to provide an overarching local coordination framework within which other, more specific, partnerships can operate. The BLSP has an ambitious vision, but one which we are confident we can deliver. We recognise the increased need to consider the impact of our work on future generations and it was felt that this should be reflected in our long-term vision for the District.

Vision 2020

  • By 2020 Bassetlaw will have a national reputation as a place to live and work.
  • Our residents will have pride in the District and reach their full potential.
  • Educational attainment will exceed the national average.
  • Bassetlaw will have a clear identity with strong links to South Yorkshire and effective partnerships arrangements in place.
  • We will understand the needs of our communities, young and old and shape services to meet these needs.

Delivery of our Vision 2020

We will achieve our vision through strong partnership working and with a focus on local needs.

In addition there are three factors, which cut across all areas of the BLSP’s work that are crucial to the success of partnership:

  • Effective Engagement - both with our communities and businesses
  • Improving Accessibility (led by the Transport & Accessibility Group)
  • Sustainable Development (Supported through the Local Development Framework)

The partners of the BLSP are constantly reviewing ways in which to bring additional resources in to the District in order to support new and existing projects. As both individual organisations and BLSP partners, we are committed to ensuring that we move forward. The BLSP also provides the framework for the production and delivery of the Community Strategy.
