Bassetlaw District Council’s Sports Development Service and
Retford Oaks Specialist Sports College are now receiving
nominations for this year’s Bassetlaw Sports Awards.
As an added incentive, everybody submitting a nomination will
automatically be entered into a prize draw to win £100.00 or £50.00
worth of vouchers for Ken Ward Sports in Worksop.
Last year, Mary Paton, Team Coach at Ryton Park won £100.00 for
nominating Ryton Park Girls Football Team, winners of the Bassetlaw
Champion of Champions football competition and the Nottinghamshire
County Championships. After finishing runners up in the Midlands
Championships Ryton Park qualified for the National Finals, where
they eventual lost out to tournament winners, Suffolk County.
Mary Paton said: “This was an amazing season where the girls
played 24 matches only losing twice. The best bit for me was that
they were a joy and pleasure to coach and took everything in their
stride.
Sonia Clark from the Bassetlaw PCT collected the £50.00 prize
after sending in four different nominations in for the awards.
Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, Councillor Julie
Leigh said:
“The district’s sporting achievements should be a source of
pride to us all. I was delighted to see Tesni Ward, one of last
year’s winners break the Welsh Javelin record last month. By
getting involved and submitting a nomination people can help us
recognise the fantastic achievements of Bassetlaw Sports Men and
Women.”
