Bassetlaw District Council is consulting on
plans to develop a Community Park with a rich and diverse natural
habitat in the Knighton Fields area of Worksop.
In addition, the Council is planning to build
a new range of play and recreational facilities and is considering
the public open space across from Meadow Lea Road and also the open
space to the rear of Oakwood Mews.
Included in the plans for the new facilities
are play equipment for children aged between 4 and 8, play
equipment and a kick about area for young people aged between 8 and
16, as well as a quiet, informal area for all ages to visit and
enjoy.
Dave Linley, Parks & Open Spaces Manager
at Bassetlaw District Council said:
“The idea is to integrate some of the play and recreation equipment
into a rich and diverse natural habitat to create a 'Community
Park' facility with wide appeal for all visitors. The
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and The Creswell Groundwork Trust
both support the project and will help promote the planned
'Community Park' as a valuable environmental asset.”
The Council is keen to hear any ideas or
comments that residents of the St Anne’s area have on these
plans. The Parks and Open Spaces team will be running a
consultation event from a marquee on the public open space across
from Meadow Lee Road on Tuesday 26th October from 1:00
pm until 4:00pm. Ideas for what could be put in place will be
available and people will have the chance to say what they
think.
Alongside the serious business, children will
be able to get active on a bouncy castle; play supervised outdoor
games as well as entertainment from the multi-talented Pogo the
Clown. The local Wildlife Trust will also be on hand to help
children make bird feeders from recycled materials.
Councillor Mike Pugsley, portfolio holder for
Environment and Housing said:
“The Council is committed to ensuring that across Bassetlaw
residents of all ages have accesses to spaces that encourage more
people to be more active, more often.
“Each play area in Bassetlaw is planned in consultation with the
local communities [including the children] as well as the
particular funding partnership concerned. Delivery of the
project depends absolutely on what the people tell us they want to
see.”
