A fun-filled programme has been planned to mark the official
opening of the new skatepark in the Canch, Worksop on 1st of
June.
The opening will be done at 12:00 noon by Council Chairman, Cllr
Dave Challinor.
Portfolio holder for Leisure, Councillor Julie Leigh, said, “The
new skatepark is the next step in making the Canch an exciting
place to be. The Council team responsible for bringing the
skatepark from consultation about the design to reality is to be
congratulated. We are confident that both skaters and bikers will
have enormous fun using it. We hope that this will be another way
that young people will be able to involve themselves constructively
and in healthy ways. We welcome any feedback from users and the
community so we can continue improving the facilities available to
young people.”
Parks and Open Spaces manager, Dave Linley said, “We’ve
purposely timed the opening for the half term holidays and we’ve
tried to make it a fun day for all-comers, not only boarders and
bikers. There’ll be plenty to see and do.
“Professional BMX cyclists and skateboarders, TrialGB, will give
demonstrations and there’ll be BMX and Skateboard competitions and
commentary on the new skatepark. Local street dance acts will strut
their stuff and local bands will provide live music.
“Pogo the Clown will be there too with his circus-style acts and
Punch and Judy shows. Quasar Laser Combat will be around and for
the very young there will be a Bouncy Castle and Face painting.
Park Ranger, Andy Roworth will be running Futsal Taster sessions
(5-a-side football) supported by the Sports Development team. And
of course, there will be refreshments.”
The event begins at 11:00 am and runs through until 4:00pm.
