Bassetlaw District Council will be out and about offering help
and advice on Food Safety next week, with Market Stalls on Retford
and Worksop Markets.
Food Safety Officers from Bassetlaw District Council’s
Environmental Health Team will be running a free public quiz from
market stalls to mark National Food Safety week which runs from 6 –
12 June.
Cllr Julie Leigh, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure
said:
“Every year in the UK up to 100,000 people will suffer from a
food borne illness. The source of most of these infections is
actually what happens in the home. The quiz aims to highlight what
we do or shouldn’t do in in our kitchens at home and promote good
food safety.
“We think it is important to get these messages out there and
people can expect to see a lot of more of this from the Council,
out on the streets talking to residents.”
People who fill in a correctly completed quiz sheet will be
entered into a draw to win prizes donated by local food
businesses.
Food Safety Week is an annual event held to promote the
importance of good food hygiene in the home. This year the theme is
“Behind closed doors.
National Food Safety week is organised by the Food Standards
Agency working in partnership with the Council’s Environmental
Health Officers.
