Bassetlaw District Council is encouraging private landlords across the district to sign up to a new accreditation scheme that shows their properties are high quality and well maintained, so that tenants can rent in confidence.

Working in partnership with the East Midlands Landlords Accreditation Scheme (EMLAS) the scheme offers quality landlords a competitive advantage in letting their properties as tenants ask themselves the question: Why rent from a landlord who isn’t accredited when you can rent from one that is?

Tenants can benefit from knowing that they are renting from a reputable landlord that is identifiable by a quality mark award. There is also greater assurance that the property and service will be of decent standard.

Councillor Alan Rhodes, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Bassetlaw District Council visited Andrew Fullelove, one of the first landlords to sign up to the scheme at his rental property in Worksop.

Councillor Rhodes said:

“Anything that drives up standards for tenants in the private rented sector is a good thing. By choosing an EMLAS accredited landlord you can have confidence that the property meets quality standards set by the Council.”

Andrew Fullelove, Director of Pinfold Property Services and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing said:

“The private rented sector is very much on the increase and although the quality of housing varies across the sector, standards within that housing should all reach a certain benchmark. By offering access to the EMLAS scheme for free, no landlord has the excuse of not understanding their responsibilities to their tenants. I would like to thank Bassetlaw District Council for promoting the scheme to letting agents and landlords in this area.”
