For more than 15 years Bassetlaw District Council has been
running its annual Spring Clean. It has become so successful that
over 40 groups regularly take part.
Cllr Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for Environment and Leisure,
says “All these people have helped to keep Bassetlaw clean and tidy
while at the same time they enjoyed working with neighbours and
friends and keeping fit!
“We intend holding Spring Clean 2012 between 8 April and 22
April this year. We’ve again linked in to Keep Britain Tidy’s “The
Big Tidy Up” campaign and we aim to involve more than the 40 groups
that took part last year. We will again provide the bags and gloves
to volunteers who take part and where it’s needed we’ll arrange to
pick up the rubbish from a specified site on a specified date.
“All you need to do is fill in the application form and return
it by 9 March at the latest and you’ll be provided with bags and
gloves.”
Janette Walker, Environmental Development and Policy Officer,
says, “As part of our campaign to keep Bassetlaw clean, tidy and a
more pleasant place to live, we are inviting all schools, community
groups and Parish Councils to take part in Spring Clean 2012. By
encouraging people to take responsibility for the area in which
they live and work we can make a lasting difference to the local
environment.
“Any school, community group or individual can take part in the
event. It doesn’t require any financial input, just a small amount
of time. We will provide you with disposable gloves and bags. You
choose the areas you want to tidy, eg school playground or a local
beauty spot, and we will, if required, collect the rubbish from
that area on a specified date. Just contact Janette Walker at
