Bassetlaw District Council has a strong
focus this year on preventing homelessness through community
engagement. The Statutory and Strategic Housing Team will be
working up a comprehensive community engagement programme aimed at
preventing homelessness for Bassetlaw residents.
Councillor Alan Rhodes, Portfolio Holder
for Housing said ‘The Council already provides fantastic housing
needs services for the District. However, this year is going to be
tough following the Government’s announcement of changes in Welfare
Reform. The team will be working across the District providing
information, help and support to prevent homelessness. One of the
projects in this year’s programme is to work closely with our local
secondary schools through our Preventing Homelessness for Young
People Project. ’
The project aims to raise the awareness of
homelessness and housing options in order to prevent young people
wanting to leave home at an early age or becoming homeless.
Gemma French and Trudy Walstow from the
Council will be contacting schools in the near future to discuss
delivering the project to year 10 pupils this summer. Schools that
would like more information about the project are asked to contact
Gemma French, Strategic Housing Information Officer on 01909
534547.
