Bassetlaw District Council has launched the Heroes Welcome
Scheme in Bassetlaw.
This scheme is a public show of support for the armed forces
personnel and gives businesses the opportunity to indicate a warm
welcome and special acknowledgement to serving or former armed
services personnel and their families.
Bassetlaw is the first town in North Nottinghamshire to launch
the scheme and has the full support of John Senior from Scarborough
who is the national co-ordinator for the Heroes Welcome Scheme,
which he created in 2008.
After seeing a spate of news articles showing a disconnection
between the armed forces and the rest of Britain, John decided to
place a hand drawn poster in the window of one of his restaurants
in Scarborough. From that poster support grew across the country,
with now almost 50 towns and cities, and the London Black Cabs also
supporting the scheme.
