Invited residents (selected from the Citizens’
Panel) to attend focus groups at Worksop and Retford Town Halls

Methodology and recruitment
|
Two discussions groups were held in Worksop
and Retford Town Halls involving a total of 18 members from the
Nottinghamshire Listens Citizens’ Panel. Participants were
drawn from across the district from a range of social grades, age,
gender and ethnicity.

What did we do?
|
Explored residents’ perceptions of some of the services provided
by Bassetlaw District Council relating to the environment in which
they live.

How did we do it?
|
Round table discussions and questionnaire to gauge residents’
awareness of, and attitudes towards service provision.

Using qualitative research
|
Unlike quantitative surveys, qualitative research is not
designed to provide statistically reliable data on what residents
as a whole are thinking. It is illustrative rather than
statistically reliable and therefore does not allow conclusions to
be drawn about the extent to which something is happening. Instead,
it is intended to shed light on why people have particular views
and how these views relate to demographic characteristics and the
experiences of residents concerned.
