The civic head is the Chairman of the Council
who was elected on 15th May 2013 at the Council's Annual General
Meeting and will hold office for one year.
This year's Chairman is Councillor Sybil
Fielding.
Born in Bassetlaw and resided in the constituency almost all my
life, I am the mother of three children, John, Edward and
Charlotte.
Although I trained as a Chef, the majority of my time in the
past 35 years has been spent working voluntary with young people in
the community.
In common with my husband and my two sons, I was a student at
North Nottinghamshire College of Education, so our family are no
strangers to Worksop!
For over a quarter of a century I have been an adult leader in
the Scout Movement, helping young people to develop physically
spiritually intellectually and socially. Also ensuring they had
lots of fun in the process. My commitment to scouting has been very
significant.
As chair of a mother and toddler group I took the initiative to
form a preschool playgroup, working closely with the community,
social services and the local authority. I extended my skills by
taking the diploma in pre school playgroup practice and became a
leader at two play groups. Although no longer connected with
playgroup, it is reassuring to know it is still going strong.
Being busy is my motto, it is a privilege to serve the
community, as a County Councillor, as a District Councillor, chair
of CAB, and Chair of Community Safety for Nottinghamshire fire and
rescue service.
Ask people about Scouting and they say “Oh Tying Knots" or
“Helping old ladies across the road". Well, there is more to
scouting than that, but helping others is a cornerstone of the
Scout Movement. Helping others is the concept uppermost in my
commitment to the residents of Bassetlaw in my role as Chair.
Sybil's chosen charities during her year of office are
Citizens Advice Bureau, Bassetlaw Scouts and Royal British
Legion.
This year's Vice-Chairman is Councillor Gillian
Freeman.
The Chairman, or the Vice-Chairman, will attend most events
within the District, time permitting, and can be contacted via the
Chairman's Officer, Trish Webster, telephone 01909 533117 or e-mail
