The civic head is the Chairman of the Council who was
elected on 18th May 2011 at the Council's Annual General Meeting
and will hold office for one year.
This year's Chairman is Councillor David Challinor.
Councillor Challinor was born in Doncaster and is married to
Denise. They have a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
A former plate welder, Councillor Challinor spent twenty eight
years working at Harworth Colliery, starting as an indentured
colliery apprentice.
Following a two year spell at Corus Steel, he was forced to
retire following a major industrial accident at Drax Power
Station.
He was first elected to Bassetlaw District Council in 2003
following a year on Harworth & Bircotes Parish Council where he
developed a strong interest in local government and community
action.
Councillor Chaillinor has been actively involved in a number of
local sports clubs and is a keen follower of Sheffield Wednesday
Football Club and Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club.
The Chairman's chosen charities are Aurora Cancer Centre, The
Bassetlaw Hospice and Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
This year's Vice-Chairman is Councillor Ian Campbell.
